Glimpse
Lucy Yeomans
All I can see
Is one square
Of light blue sky –
And that’s only
Because one of the ceiling tiles
Fell out.
It nearly hit my head, too.
I used to look at the sky
As if it could give me every answer.
Mostly, it just gave me rain.
So I built a roof
Over my sopping head.
Soon, the ceiling sagged
Under the flood of water,
Sinking low into my safety.
I sat to watch my work
Crumble. I thought it must be raining still,
But when the tile fell
(nearly upon my fearful head),
I saw that it was clear.
The rain had gone, somehow,
And I was hiding
From the light.
