Things Nobody Knows

Gerald Yelle

I’m not talking about scientific or even psychological knowledge, just everyday knowledge. Like when a given politician’s going to choke. We keep trying to find out when we ought to be able to wait and see. Hey we can predict the weather. What more do we want? We could already do more than we think if we think about it. That’s why we have those elongated heads. We can do an awful lot of thinking. But we still don’t have the answers we’re looking for. We know we can smell without stinking. And tell without thinking. We know we have to die some day and for some of us that’s enough. We try and make the most of the time we have. Every time we sneeze.

Gerald Yelle has worked in restaurants, factories, schools and offices. His books include The Holyoke Diaries, Mark My Word and the New World Order, and Dreaming Alone and with Others. He lives in Amherst, Massachusetts.
